Bijkomstigheden

Leuke bijkomstigheden van het opzetten van de nieuwe panelen die ik gisteren liet zien: soms was de verf op mijn panelen wat te dik en heb ik het overtollige afgedrukt in mijn schetsboeken. Best interessant!

Fun extra's that came with the start of the new panels that I showed here yesterday: sometimes I found the paint a bit too thick on the panels and I printed the excess in my sketchbooks. Interesting results!

Nieuw

Dit zijn twee nieuwe panelen waar ik van de week aan begonnen ben (acrylverf op 60 x 60 cm mdf panelen). Nu weer even laten staan om te zien wat er eventueel nog bij moet.

These are two new panels that I started this week (acrylics on 60 x 60 cm panels). Now they have to sit in my studio for a while to see what I possibly still need to add.

Vlekken

De vlekken op het papieren zakdoekje waar ik mijn penseel aan heb afgeveegd, vormen soms interessante patronen. Deze vond ik mooi genoeg om te bewaren; het zou een wolkenlucht kunnen worden, of het begin van een nieuw abstract werk. En de echte wolkenlucht lijkt dan soms weer net een vlekkerige aquarel...

The stains on the paper towel that I used to clean my brush, can form interesting patterns. This one was nice enough to keep; it could become a cloudy sky or the beginning of a new abstract work. And the real sky in its turn can look like blotchy watercolors...

Herfstzon

Misschien kan ik beter abstract blijven schilderen, maar soms roept het zonlicht me gewoon naar buiten voor een snelle schets. Op zijn minst zijn dit leuke herinneringen aan waar ik toen was.

Maybe I should stick to abstract painting, but sometimes the autumn sun just calls me outside for a quick sketch. At the very least these are nice memories of these times and places.

Tóch lijnen

Hoe meer portretten ik maakte, hoe meer lijnen er toch weer in opdoken. Ik ben blijkbaar meer een tekenaar dan een schilder.

The more portraits I made, the more lines eventually appeared. Maybe I'm just more of a drawer than a painter?

Portretten zonder lijnen

Naar aanleiding van de aquarellen van muzikanten die ik van de week terugvond, heb ik weer eens geprobeerd om portretten te maken met aquarel, zonder lijnen. Het is niet helemaal gelukt: soms kon ik de verleiding gewoon niet weerstaan om er toch nog een brilletje in te tekenen bijvoorbeeld...

In the style of the musicians sketches that I recovered this week, I tried to apply this technique – using watercolors and no lines – on my portrait sketches once more. I didn't completely succeed: sometimes I just couldn't resist adding some lines for a pair of glasses, a watch or a hand...
